Dr. Zachary Berbos is a board-certified eye physician and surgeon that specializes in ophthalmic plastic and reconstructive surgery in Rapid City. Dr. Berbos’ focus is on treating conditions that involve the eyebrows, forehead, eyelids, orbit (eye socket), lacrimal (tear) system, mid-face, and lower face. His area of expertise also includes cosmetic surgery involving these areas, as well as non-surgical modalities to improve cosmetic appearance, including botulinum toxins, laser and chemical skin resurfacing, and a variety of injectable dermal fillers.
Dr. Berbos is a Fellow of both the American College of Surgeons and the American Academy of Ophthalmology. He holds an appointment as an adjunct clinical professor at Creighton Medical School and serves as a guest instructor at the University of Arizona Medical School for Gross Anatomy focused on head and neck dissection.Dr. Berbos has published many peer-reviewed medical journal articles, research studies, textbook chapters, and gives lectures locally and nationally on facial plastic surgery.
Dr. Berbos graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry and a minor in Religion and Philosophy from the University of Southern California (USC) in Los Angeles. He attended medical school at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis and graduated with the highest honors in all fields of study. He then completed his residency at the University of Minnesota’s Department of Ophthalmology, where we served as Chief Resident his final year, scored in the top 1% nationally on his board exams, and received an award for having an exceptional gift for Oculofacial Surgery.
After his residency, Dr. Berbos then completed a two-year fellowship in Cosmetic and Functional Oculoplastic and Facial Surgery in Salt Lake City, Utah. During his fellowship, he trained under Drs. Richard Anderson and John McCann at the Center for Facial Appearances, which is recognized as one of the top training programs in the nation for oculoplastic surgery.
In his free time, Dr. Berbos enjoys spending time outdoors and listening to live music with his wife, Fleur, and son, Oliver.
